decoy pigeons when I can this year
I am allowed to go ferreting on Walsingham estate. I have to borrow
ferrets off a mate. When he breeds them this year he's going to let
me have some. Could you give me some tips on which works best i.e.
jacks or jills also I will mainly net the holes and sometimes shoot
any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

Answer : Thankyou for your entry
Many prefer jills, due their speed and ability to pass through purse
nets barely disturbing them
but some prefer hobs, which use their weight and brute force to
shift stubborn rabbits
The Rabbit Hunters forums are full of advice, and with approx 500
members between the 3 groups, there's plenty of folk to answer any
questions you may have

Answer : Thankyou for your entry
You can only hunt rabbits on land that you have permission to hunt
them on
You need to find land with rabbits on, and ask the landowner
If you don't you are breaking the law, and worse case scenario is
farmer and his sons hurry you into a barn for 10 mins and leave you
with a smashed rifle or dead dog
(and it does happen!)

I built my site because there wasn't much info on the subject, I
have noticed a steady increase in websites on hunting in the past
couple of years, and I hope many more will take the initiative and
allow the public to see that what we do isn't needless killing, but
an important part of country ways

problem is that you don't say what gun the foxes are shot with as I
presume they are not shot by air rifle. also I presume you are using
and FAC air rifle as its not normal to get an exit wound very good

I only shoot one rifle, Falcon Raptor FN19 RB (.22 calibre)
No it's not FAC, and has been chronographed
There wasn't an exit wound on the fox, as the skull is a lot thicker
than a rabbits.
I don't always get exit wounds from rabbits or squirrels, and have
often retrieved my pellet.

What a great site. Would be better if there were some more specific
air rifle hunting tips. Shared knowledge is a benefit to us all.
Hunting at the moment in the Rhondda valleys has been restricted due
to the bad weather, but the summer of 2005 has been excellent locally
for quite reasonable bags of squirrels, magpies and crows. Rabbits seem
to be quite lamp shy and extremely wary. There are not many around in
the actual valleys due to a possible reoccurrence of the dreaded "Myxi".
Keep up the good work and every success!

Comment : truly excellent site mate. well done. wish I had all the
land with permission that you have. good luck to you. I'm working on
it! I have permission on two farmyards. both are perfect for
airgunning with bags of legal quarry. Just out of interest, did you
shoot the fox with your air rifle, if so, is it an FAC air rifle or
can you legally shoot foxes under the pest control laws with a 12ftlb
air rifle. the reason I ask is because I am frequently crossing paths
with these night hunters and never shoot at them. P.S. what's your
choice of hunting pellet. mine are Crosman Accu-Pell for those long
range shots and the hard hitting .22 Bisley pest control for close
quarter rat destruction. keep up the good work. I look forward to your
reply.

Yes, I shot it with my air rifle
No, it's not FAC rated
I've researched into this many times over the years, and there's no
law against it (I've even asked a policeman that I've known for years)
It is frowned upon, but it is not illegal
It is recommended that air rifles should only be used on quarry they
are capable of killing cleanly, with no suffering.
As a single shot to the fox's head killed him stone dead @ 20 yards, I
was within the rifle's capability.
I use Eley Wasp as my main pellet, and occasionally Prometheus black
(steel pellets in a plastic jacket)

Answer : Thankyou
for your entry This is the second fox I've shot with an air
rifle (the 1st was a mangy example of the species).
Air rifles
aren't recommended for fox, and is usually frowned upon by some (even by
other hunters), but they are often used for game/pests that many see as
bullet/shotgun quarry (such as Pheasant, Duck & Pigeon)
But so
long as you have the permission to do it (landowner) you stay within
the law (boundaries, age limits, rifle power, etc) and prevent causing
unnecessary suffering to your quarry, they are quite capable of killing
a fox.
They aren't toys (as some seem to think), they are designed
to kill, and have recently been plastered all over the news, due to
people not respecting them, or the laws. One incident being the toddler
Andrew Morton being shot & killed in the street with an air
rifle. It is such as this that gives responsible air gunners an
undeserved bad name, and anti hunters more ammunition against our
sport/pastime.
